Vampyre Slayers are REAL

Vampire slayers are real! It’s the worlds way of balancing out things. After all, something has to be higher than the vampires in the cycle of life. The origin of the slayers dates back to the Eleventh Century. This was a time where France and English Christians formed pilgrimages to the birthplace of their religion, Jerusalem. Around the year 1050, Jerusalem was attacked by an outstanding number of vampires. It took an army of men to force the vampires into the hills that surrounded the city…only driving them to prey and feed on pilgrims from Europe that had migrated there. Thousands of pilgrims lost their lives to the vampires. Pope Urban II then formed The Order of The Slayer in response in the year 1093. The pope asked wealthy lords from Christian nations to bring together armies to march on Jerusalem and slay the vampires. After training, the lords were welcomed into the Order in a sacred religious ceremony. The Order filled its armies with countless volunteers who were given plots of land in return for their service. This formed what is known as the First Vampire Crusade. It was a success for the slayers. Each new oncoming of vampires in and around Jerusalem forced another Crusade, and the battle for the city went on for almost 300 years.

After the Vampire Crusades were over, the slayers lived on in the form of medieval Slayer Guilds, which were organizations of men trained to fight vampires. Since this, there have been people being inherently endowed with vampire-fighting capability. These people have preternatural powers that have been supernaturally inherited over the years as well as mystical responsibilities with many other forms of paranormality. Slayers of today aren’t religiously motivated as their ancestors were but have the same dedication to their calling.

Believe it or not…the number of modern day slayers isn’t as great. It is said for every slayer that dies, 3 more are born but only 1 of the 3 actually accepts the calling. There are thousands of slayers out there that just don’t know that they are slayers. Others find out and ignore it, some find out and seek religious guidance, some do it a while and quit, and the ones that accept it usually join the order based in England dedicated to the destruction of all that is higher than humans on the food chain (vampires/ demons).

To be truthfully honest, allot of the people that claim to be slayers aren’t. They’re either role players, wannabes, hunters, or psychos. Here are a few ways to tell a slayer from the rest. First off, slayers aren’t the beautiful, popular, perfect-life good guys that the television and books have pointed them out to be. Slayers work in secret. Loners by nature. They may have a few friends that know about them… but bottom line, they don’t go around broadcasting to the nation that they slay vampires. A real slayer would simply know better because if word gets out of who they are, besides the little men in white jackets being called and harassment from religious gurus and the authorities, they’d have to worry about vampires and or demons hunting them or the people the care about.

Much like vampires, slayers give people the mysterious vibe. For whatever reason, people seem to shy away from slayers, as they do vampires. They don’t usually connect to the human world around them-- simply because as slayers, they don’t really walk in that world. Sure, maybe at work or in the few social gatherings that they involve themselves with... but ultimately, the slayer is the law in the supernatural world. And this is a weight that they carry alone. They stay to themselves for fear of endangering those close to them. If you got a slayer with a cheering section in the background, odds are, they’re fake. Also, real slayers shouldn’t have to ask to see your vampire membership card. A slayer knows by instinct whether a person is a vampire. It’s an innate sense that they have… though they may not attack then and there- or may go about confirming their suspicions with further investigation, they more or less know what you are if they’ve learned how to control their gift.

Slayers can sense when your intentions are evil and or when you are craving blood. Sangunarians are the most hunted types of vampires by slayers simply because psychic vampires aren’t as easily detected by a slayer‘s instinct. Lots of focus is needed in order to sense a psy. This is because Sangunarians were the first and only types of vampires to walk the earth back when the first slayers were called to battle. Vampires have since, evolved into many different types and forms. Slayers come from the same source that they always have and CANNOT change. If you’ve got a slayer saying that they have magical powers or that they’re half demon- or wolf or whatever that these insane people claim, then they’re either faking or you’re dealing with something completely different than a slayer. The fact is, the power that the slayer is gifted with is so pure that it can NOT be tampered with, enhanced, taken away or destroyed by any forms of magic, possession, or anything else that people have made up. This is because it‘s not magically based- its inherited by the person and has even been said to be able to repel or weaken many forms of black magic, white magic, or voodoo. The only way a slayer’s power can be removed, is by death.

Speaking of their gift… slayers come from a long line of mystical warriors that were destined and trained to hunt/kill vampires. They’re gifted with lots of the same strengths that vampires have (super strength, advanced healing, stamina). They’re extremely strong…and I don’t mean lifting barbells or throwing cars strong. Usually, a slayer’s strength and skill will only manifest itself in instances when adrenaline is released due to a paranormal trigger… for example…vampire attack/demon attack. Real slayers have to learn how to control their power and only then can they really use it at will… its not like on Buffy where they find out who they are and then tread off to kill vampires and beat up the high school football team. It sometimes takes years for a slayer to fully learn how to control every aspect of their power. REAL slayers are EXTREMELY dedicated to their calling… at times, it can seem as if they’re obsessed. Allot of the fakers are weekday slayers. Like they may seem big and bad Monday thru Friday… but Saturday night’s party…vampires be damned. Real slayers know that sacrifices must be made to do their job and usually don’t attend that many social gatherings for leisure.

Vampires aren’t the only thing that a true slayer is prepared/ destined to stop. In fact, demons make more cameos in their lives than vampires do. All slayers are supernatural magnets. Just about anything near them with a supernatural base and or intention will find it’s way to them eventually... it’s the world’s way of keeping things in balance. Unless they’re suspicious of something or on a routine hunt, a slayer usually lies low and waits for the evil to come upon them. In areas that demonic activity is heavy, lots of slayers find themselves forming a pattern or a schedule of monitoring to make sure that all is well in the world and will, in the process, come upon a demon every now and again… but usually demonic activity will find them.

As far as weapons go, I guess it varies from slayer to slayer and depends on how heavily policed the area is. Allot of slayers (real ones) still use wooden stakes to kill simply for security reasons. You can ditch a sharpened piece of wood easily and undetected quickly if confronted by the authorities whereas crossbows, swords, guns aren’t so easily discarded. The legal system makes it almost impossible for any true slayer to tote anything else unlicensed. Plus, if they’re hunting in places like clubs, a stake (or non-metal weapon) can get through the metal detector or the pat down at the door much easier than a crossbow or machete can. If attacked or attacking, a slayer is skilled enough to be able to improvise with their hands and feet until they come upon a weapon of some sort. In the hands of a slayer, damn near anything can be a weapon. They know how to utilize the environment around them in order to get the job done. Once again, real slayers aren’t witches, they aren’t half-bred vampire/demon monsters with hypnotizing powers, they aren’t half wolf…or any of these other mystical characters that these people have made up to confuse others or support their role playing fantasy. The only mystical parts to a slayer are the facts that were mentioned before. Anyone that tells you differently is lying! Slayers are born with the know-how and capability of fighting. They’re WARRIORS by nature. So, your odds of finding an overweight, 500 pound vampire slayer are impossible.

The weak points of slayers are pretty simple… for one, they’re very arrogant. Slayers feel as if they can handle anything and take on anyone. Allot of the time, they don’t know when to back off. A slayer’s instinct is very strong… but if the slayer doesn’t listen… they put themselves in danger. A slayer’s instinct may tell them to run… but a slayer would rather have a no-fear arrogant attitude and stay…which usually is the reason that most of them end up dead. Many of them abuse their power. Instead of strictly hunting the bad-ass vampires, they’ll try and hunt them all. This makes them dangerous to the peaceful sects of vampires and is another reason why vampires should stick to the same donors and avoid putting themselves “out there“. Vampires with evil intentions lack this knowledge. They’re obvious, they’re always leaving clubs with different people, their hunger is uncontrolled and always high, and they’re always into the gothic lifestyle -- in short, an easy target/kill for slayers.

Now hunters. Hunters are regular people with no super strengths, senses or anything like slayers have (unless you’re talking about vampires that hate what they are and that have decided to hunt their own kind). Hunters are usually bigots with personal vendettas to settle with one vampire or another and have decided to take it out on the entire race. Most are just people/kids that discover the “occult” world and want to be a part of it or make a name for themselves. The rest are lonely ass internet geeks that write fan fictions and stay in role player chat rooms on the internet and should probably be reported before they hurt someone or get hurt themselves. Hunters are actually more trouble to humans than vampires. They don’t have any preternatural senses that can confirm someone being a vampire… so a lot of them actually murder mortals that happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Not to mention all of the peaceful vampires that they’ve destroyed. Hunters will usually say that they are slayers just so that vampires will fear them and refrain from or hesitate fighting back when hunted (because they think that they have slayer abilities).

Hunters have no mystical callings. They hunt when its convenient for them. If they decide to quit, they can without worrying about demons hunting them. Allot of them kill to gain respect for themselves (low self-esteem). Here is where you find guns and heavy weaponry. Hunters aren’t preternaturally skilled and carry big weapons as a substitute for it. It also helps them from crapping on themselves in battle (fear). Bottom line, vampires are stronger than hunters- which is why you will seldom find a hunter alone. They will usually hunt with back-up. Mortals rely on others in situations of fear…this makes them different from slayers. Slayers rely on themselves…hunters will rely on their weapons or their partners/groups. Hunters will never attack a vampire without having a weapon handy. Keep this in mind. Their weaknesses are the same as regular humans really…and they can come in any shape.

In many instances, vampires that heard that they were being hunted by hunters simply tipped off the police…and before they knew what had happened, they were arrested for attempted murder and toting weapons that were illegal and or unlicensed. Slayers are evasive and clever enough to know when to attack and don’t usually let you know that you’re being hunted. Hunters will find where you live and attack you in your home. They’re vigilantes. Slayers will make the fight theirs and meet you on neutral ground. Hunters, whether with good intention or bad, really shouldn’t exist because they’re poking around in a world that they weren’t meant to be in- but I guess that’s human nature.
