Myths vs. Reality

First of all, I'd like to take some time to explain why there are so many myths and confusing information floating around. Why people used to think we were reanimated dead rising from their graves at night, or evil creatures possessed by demons? Well, simply put, our ancestors were much more powerful than all present day living Vampyres. They were able to do things we are no longer able to. Now if you take an average medieval person and their way of thinking, its nothing surprising that ordinary people couldn't have any other explanation except for we were living dead, something unnatural, possessed by the devil or similar funny things of that nature. Other myths are also results of our own work, because they were spread out on purpose. See, as our bloodlines were watering down, we became weaker and couldn't just openly walk on public like we once used to. People (and especially in the Middle Ages, you all know Which hunts) would hunt us down. These myths simply gave us something that shrouded us from the human society. Its quite obvious that you can hardly go after something you believe is just too bizzare to exist, or successfully hunt down something you have only false information about. In other words, these things made our lives simplier. However, it backfired later, which started to manifest gradually, but steadily. Its the reason why many of today living Vampyres can't even get any real information, provided they don't have their own mentor. With all the bullshit everywhere, its hard for them to decide what to believe. Some even start start taking seriously complete and utter crap. This is one of the reasons our Community has been so diversed and why there are so many Vampyres with completely different understanding of Vampyrism. But I digress. So now, without any further ado, lets go take a look at the most common myths and compare them to reality, shall we?

Vampyres are undead, demonic monsters etc.
False. We are neither undead, nor demons. We are quite simply just Vampyres.

Vampyres are evil, attack and kill people, hypnotize their victims and take their blood against their will.
False. Sanguinarians that feed on blood have their donors. As the word suggests, donors are people who choose to donate us their blood willingly. Vampyres take only small amounts of blood at a time, and are very careful during the process so as to not cause any unnecessary pain or even any permanent harm to the donor. Sure, there is many of twisted, weird individuals out there who are capable of truly notorious things, but they have nothing to do with Vampyrism. They are just people who try using it as an excuse for their actions.

Vampyres sleep in coffins, are repelled by crosses, holy water, silver, garlic, can't cross running water, cry blood instead of tears, need soil from their homeland to sleep in, and the list goes on and on...
False. All these things are basd on various myths, legends and folklore.

Vampyres can shape shift and assume shape of many animals (bats, wolves, owls, snakes etc.) or turn into mist so that they can get into locked rooms through the keyhole or under the door.
Again, false. Present day Vampyres can not shape shift, turn into mist, or anything else.

Vampyres cast no shadow and have no reflection in mirrors.
False. Although I can imagine this could be quite funny :-D

Vampyres can't step into sunlight and if they do, they will die or burn to ashes.
False, albeit its true, that some Vampyres are allergic or very sensitive to sunlight and may suffer from painful sunburns if exposed to the sun for too long. However, this goes for most mortals and the particular sensitivity always varies from Vampyre to Vampyre. But most certainly no Vampyre dies or burns to ashes when exposed to sunlight.

Vampyres are immortal and can only be killed by driving a wooden stake through their heart.
False. We are not immortal can can die just like everybody else. So yeah, even a stake through the heart would kill us, because this would certainly kill everybody.

Vampyres are immune to all diseases and can heal even serious injuries almost instantly.
False. While our immune system is better and we are somewhat resistant to many diseases, this doesn't make us immune. Vampyres can be sick like everybody else. The difference is that we aren't sick so often compared to mortals and our recuperation doesn't take as much time.

Vampyres have huge, sharp fangs.
False. Our fangs are perfectly normal.

All Vampyres are pale.
False. This has more to do with genetic than being a Vampyre. Some people have really fair skin, although they aren't Vampyres at all!

Vampyrism is a virus.
False. Lol! Seriously, were this true, it would have been proven long ago. There has been many conspiracy theories but nobody has ever come with a single proof that would suggest so.

Vampyres don't need/eat "normal" food.
False. If Vampyres ate no physical food, they would have to weight only like 80 lbs or so.

Vampyres can't enter church or set their foot on holy ground.
False. These things won't stop us.

Vampyres sleep during the day and are awake at night.
False. Although Vampyres are naturally nocturnal and prefer to sleep during the day, this can rarely be done due to conflicts with their "human" life such as school, their job, businesses that are only open during the day, etc.

All Vampyres are goth.
A Vampyre can surely be goth, just like everybody else. However, being goth doesn't mean being a Vampyre. Some Vampyres are goth, some aren't..
